"....the Grinch's small heart
Grew three sizes that day!
"-from 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas'

Lucas is almost three weeks old already!

There is no doubting this tiny boy is very loved.

(Remembrance Day Post is two below)

The Care Package Arrived Early This Week!

Well my friend Knit Owl in Tennessee had some bad luck recently.
Her husband fell where they work and fractured his wrist and finger.
It required surgery, and they were in quite a mess for a couple of weeks.
It is horrible when a computer geek loses use of their hands.
Livelyhood and pass-time were put on hold to fix the poor thing's broken wing.

I really like this couple, they feel like another pair of "borrowed kids" like Rob and Becky(oh and now baby Lucas!!!!!)
And they are so much like Alex, in interests too.

I thought they could use a little CARE package.
I sent a little bit of everything.
But most of all I sent them some Newfoundland Savoury!
I know quite a few Newfies read this blog.
If you could post in comments some of the great things you can use the savory for, I know they would appreciate it!

Knit Owl was the first blogger who took part in exchanges, that I had ever read. She is my primary source for all things knitty and crafty. I just had to read a few of the blogs of her commentors to learn about the exchanges and how they work.
I really appreciate her organized work on her posts and her dedication to her readers. She is a really reciprocating blogger in comments.
We all know bloggers that we just clicked with over our blogging history! It is so cool! And reading about their projects is so much fun!

KnitOwl has posted some pictures of the care package. I am so glad it all arrived undamaged!

There are great gift and card exchanges that go on in big guilds of bloggers. Pea is looking for folks to exchange Christmas/Holiday cards with, if you are interested. I really feel like the blogger folks in the exchanges are really doing a great job of bringing back some social things we now miss in life. These are folk that are learning and teaching each of us about where they are from, what their culture is like, the crafts that they specialize in, and how creative one can be with wee budget. I am making some really great blogger/pen pals in these groups. It is the idea of finding or making something cheap that you can mail cheap. It is a really fun creative thing to get involved in! It also means we begin to get to know the post office gals really well! The next keen parcel is going to Caledonia in Scotland for our Christmas Grotto exchange set up by Mandy.

Did you know that alot of the needlework bloggers exchange at least one time a month! Yep I am not kidding. Someone had the creative idea to make a knit plus tea exchange! How awesome is that! there are groups that exchange yarn or patterns too.

My favourite one so far was Socks for Sheep. I really like the idea of knitting for a charity. I looked up charity knitting on Google. I found a red scarf campaign in the US for new immigrants first winter in America. I found hospital knitters for babie's hats and blankets. There are mitt knitters for charity too!

I know about the baby knitters and the mitt knitters and hat knitters from our local knitting shops in our Province. They are well known. Do you know how it all started? It started in the First World War. Folks were knitting for the troops. Sending huge parcels of knits for the boys on the front lines.

I am trying to think of a really unique exchange. I want to make it one that is great for guys and gals. I am not sure what yet. My grey matter is working on it....... If you have an idea tell me. I bet you can think of something you would like to exchange. My first idea was pins. Like flag pins. I send them in all my packages. Plus I try to send something made within 10 miles of my house, for the world at large. What is made near me? The famous candy "Rockets", the TY Beanie Babies, Richter's herbs, and Mars Bars, Reebock Running Shoes(I am not sending shoes!), and Hallmark Cards.

Saturday Is Remembrance Day
(click on the photo and zoom in to read what the card has to say)

On the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month. We all stand before the local Cenetaff to honour our fallen soldiers with 2 minutes of silence.

My ideals have changed. I find myself no longer thinking of my Grandfather who was killed in a bomber when my Dad was 18months old. Now my thoughts are for my Husband and Son. I don't worry that they may choose to go to Afghanistan, I don't worry about them dying. I don't even worry at all. But I do have this prioritization of my respect that must be honoured.

I think that my thoughts on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month should be for the men who could choose anything else to do to fill their free time, and they choose to be reservists. If you ask a reservist why they do it, they will all tell you it is a type of calling they must fulfill. I honour them for that.

So, on the 11th hour of the 11th day on the 11th month I will be giving thanks to the men of my family who made a conscious choice when they could do anything else, because it is necessary.

This pin above.....Alex got it in his last Rations Box. He gave it to me to give his Grandfather for Remembrance Day.
So, on the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month I will stand beside my Father, the Son who never got to see his Father, and I will give him this pin. From my Son, to his Grandfather, while we watch my Husband in his uniform honour his compatriots.
-2 minutes of silence-
That is my Remembrance Day.

Please enjoy "A Pittance Of Time" by my buddy Terry Kelly:

A few yrs back Terry was in a drug store on Remembrance Day. There was a man bullying the cashier to serve him as she observed the 2 minutes of silence. His small child had to tug at his coat to draw his attention to the time.
Terry Decided then and there that he would create a song so no one would ever forget again.

This is a past piece I wrote May 9, 2006

RESPECT, PEACE,
WAR, LOVE- A LESSON IN UNDERSTANDING

Four years ago, if someone was to state that Lynn would be writing a pro war piece, I would have tore their ears off and planted them up their nose.
You see I think of myself as the lioness protecting her Pride when I am on the defensive.
A little too Type A personality for most to handle.

“ I’s gots my principles and I will fight for them!”

I have learned in my older age that principles are dynamic.
(Oh dynamic is one of my buzzwords if you haven’t figured that out yet. I love it and hate the word paradigm) Principles must change for we must learn.

It seems that I learn more at this age than I did when I was younger. Or, maybe I just ignore less as I get older.

This past Sunday was Carl’s graduation from Basic Military Training.
Oh so what? People will ask. Many others have done that!

I look them directly in the eye and say, “Yeah, but almost none does it in his 49th year.”

It became apparent to me that Carl was interested in the Canadian Military Reserves when my Son finished his own BMQ.
I have been excited for both of them since they each decided that the Reserves are for them.

I, myself don’t like war, and I really had to look at idea of them being in the military with very clear eyes. I was worried that I would not be able to get past the fog of my own beliefs to see what attraction the Reserves meant to my Husband and Son.

I watched them both…..My nerdy, superfluous intellectual, introverted, digitized thinkers. And I needed to understand what part of them wanted this so bad.
I know now that it is the phrase personal challenge that best describes the honey that attracts the bee to the uniform.

These two men have always been able to go into their mind and accomplish their day to day routine. A life of statistics and numbers and pattern and code.
Why oh why would going out on weekends and being brutalised and demoralised and dirty and smelly and hurting in pain and worried and frustrated be something they longed for?

The simple answer, because they can.
It is the greatest accomplishment ever for the intellectual introvert to go deep into the Man and draw out the Beast.
You only make it through Basic Training if you are successful drawing out the Beast when it is necessary.

And with the Beast come the dreams once more.
A revitalisation of the Man.

Here is a salute to The Beasts.

I finally know where their minds are at.
It is easy for me to raise up my beast. It is hard for them.

But know this:
Put me in the place where my beast is taken away and then I have to find it again…. And I would never make it.

It is through them I began to understand the phrase that becomes key to every family when they lose a loved one fighting a war. “They died doing what they believed in and what they loved to do.”
It is not just about finding the Beast.
It is about using the Beast to make a difference.
A measured display of how much they believe in BEING, and being Canadian.

Strong, Proud
There and Helping
Moving into the crevasses hidden within the front lines
Waiting to aid.
Aiding to help.

Helping because that is what Canadians do.

I know that not all of our friends and family are happy about the green Alex and Carl wear.
Everyone has their own reasons for the choices they make.

I have learned that Canada’s presence in war is necessary.
Many regular people would never survive without the Canadians.
Just because others choose the first steps into war, it doesn’t mean Canada can choose to turn their head away from the humans in need.
Remember the word HUMANITY?
A Country that works so hard for balance and equality for its people; Canada has to allow that equality to touch all nations in need.

I empathise with those who have first hand experiences and repercussions of a nation at war.
I do know the word CONFLICT too.

I can tell you I am very proud of my Men.
They showed me a path around conflict that I never knew.
I realise that each of those men in uniform represent us.
In Canada they make an informed choice, and are drawn from a very tiny pool of volunteers.
The Reservists join first to protect Canadians at home, and second to protect the weak abroad.
A completely unselfish act.

Not so for some countries for which conscription, of each teen, is dangling the Education carrot on a stick over them for control. An idea of eligible means just an age number and not a qualification of understanding. And mothers are stripped of their children, and passives are forced into an engagement with a gun so the Army can show numbers because losses are too great.

To my friends in Germany I will send you this hug of understanding:

When you see the uniform worn with pride
It creates your hurt that aches inside
I know that collective with emotion, not pride
You bend your heads low in disgust

I understand that you need your life without guns.

And I respect that you vow that to repeat the past just won’t do.
I know you want us to learn a lesson from yesterday’s past and not create today’s pain

I hear your message clear and loud
I know of fascism you are not proud.

I hope that now in my contemporary mind
I can do you justice too.

I beg your understanding to hear what I have learned

I know that war is not just

And I don’t want suffering when it seems such a must

I see troops fight and I see children run
I am not blind to these acts

…..But I have come to understand that the world is not well run

And someone has to make peace.

Once the peace keeper and now a peace maker
The line is so blurred at times

Canada comes in to aid and to protect
…..Still with weapons upon their shoulder
Soldiers One, Two, Three…

They see ills and travesty that no human should experience
They give their lives to aid

And the question still
Who dares create war, who dares!?

As the dead are recited at role call
No man wants to listen, but listen they must

The world’s rules are not equal
And as long as they are not

The PeaceKeeper will become The PeaceMaker.

Are You On The List?
(The blog just clicked over 4000 viewers since June)

I have been busy. So busy I missed several posts in the last week.

I got to some neglected work, including updating my blog network list.

If you have the time they are worth a peek. Also have a peek at the bloggers who put themselves on the linkies.

This is my blog network list.
I watch these blogs as much as I can. Are you missing?

If you are, leave a linky and I will add you ASAP!

If you used to be on the list, and you are not a blog, then you are being moved to another location in the links soon!

If you are not on here, it may be that life evolved and I am just not watchin the blog any more. If you want back on, then linky up!

If you fit into my wonder world of blognationality you will be added. I don't post up ads for stuff, but that doesn't mean you won't make it to my bookmarks. I don't post news blogs or fan blogs. I don't post sick blogs or naked blogs. I usually don't post blogs of people under 18 yrs old. But there are exceptions...if you are articulate and have strong views and a teen, you will be considered.

I also look at all the blogs on the I am Canadian Blogroll at the bottom right of my sidebar. Plus the three Blogrolls- Wordless Wednesday, Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt, Green Thumb Sunday. Look for them in the sidebar.
I have my own weird blogroll for those who are fridge voyeurs. Find that roll in the fridge in the margin.

I have waited several weeks for just the right time
to show you these photographs.

This is The Sharon Temple
The "Music Hall" built by The Children of Peace.
The number of windows, and the number of pillars inside
are significant to the architecture of
The Temple of Solomon.
People came to worship here after1826.
It took 7 years to build, just like
The Temple of Solomon

This is the Study

This is The Temple at
"Illuminations"
Illuminations celebrated two specific days.
June 8th for the celebration of the planting
and
September 8th for the celebration of the harvest.
Each light, indoors and in the towers is a candle.

June, Was The Last Time I Showed My Work Area

My work area is in our family room.
I drift around my family room about every 10 minutes
trying to walk off the pain in my head and neck,
or trying to prevent pain.

Since June I have expanded my work area.
It is no longer just the computer and scrapbooking cubby hole.
Now it is that, plus the knitter's paradise.

My chair is the green one.
Most days I have something
on that little wooden table in front of my chair.
Today it has a yarn ball winder.

My drawers there started three drawers high.
As I expanded the area that I tidied and organized,
my drawer height increased!

Lots and Lots of Yarn!
It is all wound and in catagories.
Some is set aside for specific patterns.
Some is for creating dolls and animals.

I added another table to my work area.
Besides my computer table I also have the knitting table.
You can see there are two more drawer sets.
I would only buy one drawer set at a time.
The rule has been that I don't purchase another
until I am ready to fill it with stuff from downstairs.
Now all the craft stuff that was hap-hazardly stored
throughout the basement, is contained and organized.
No junk!
All the junk is gone!

So here is the knitting table with the
manual chunky knitting machine.
Manual is best if you are creative.
I can use as many colours as I desire.
Automatic machines are usually
limited to two colours.

The view below is from my position
sitting at the knitting machine
looking to my right.

Right in front of me is the fireplace.
It is a bit warm in the house today, so I didn't make a fire

To my left is my computer area, and my storage area.
I have the stereo there too.
I like to listen to classical music
or books on tape when I am working in this room.

Halloween is Now Just a Memory

Here is a few shots I took of our house on Halloween.
We didn't go all out this year,
but I had the stacked pumkin lantern
in the window with my Pumpkins

There are two tea-lights on either side of the
Stacked Pumkins.
I purchased myself the pumkin and ghosty tea-lights
like the ones I sent to Mandy.

Yes I'm Alive!

Quick note just to let you know I am just a bit busy and taking a few days off blogging this week.
I did not have the most successful brainfreeze this week, so I am laying low a bit so I am ready for my busy weekend.

I will have a Saturday post. I am looking forward to it because I have been saving a most beautiful photo for the Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt!

I sent off my care package to RheLynn and Mr. J after his horrible computing accident! That really does sound funny. His wrist and hand are all operated on and it is a week now since he began his recovery.

I hope Socks For Sheep arrives on Friday in Connecticut.

I will have a bunch of stuff to show you on Sunday. I want to show everyone my new and improved work area, now I have put my knitting machine back to work.

Yep, that's right. I hand knit and I machine knit!
Go figure!
I have a manual chunky machine. I purchased it in about 1989. I didn't use it in the days I worked full-time, and Mom borrowed it. Now I have it again and I am gonna make use of it.
I think I may even get Carl trying it out! I know Cam says he remembers it. He was only a toddler when I used to machine knit. Maybe Cam will try too!

I got some knitting books from Ebay and I will post the photos of them this weekend too.

I am adding this new avatar to go with the new season.
Yep T'is the season of the Rocker Chick! With fairy wings for flavour.
