I caught on film two rare events to see here in Ontario Canada.
On the same day, in the same area of our property my Son Cameron and I discovered two rare things.
One was a Bumble Bee nest under ground.
We caught a few bees goin in and out of the dirt hole.
Also we were washing off the culvert the boys dug out, and Cameron and I discovered a Black Widow Spider. I know we have them here in Ontario, but they are a rare find. This is first one I have ever seen here in Canada.
Ours have the noteable speckle white on the bum and a red dot. She moved so fast, and we were a little scared, so I didn't get a shot of her red dot.

Nice close-ups.
I remember finding a bee nest underground as a kid - I peeked in and there was like a gazillion jumbo bees. Eeeek!
Thanks for sharing.

Great close ups, but that about all I can say, since I never seen neither of those. We don't have them over here, looking like that anyway :-) Interesting though.

I loathe spiders and am terrified of them! I'd never see that movie, "Arachnophobia"!

Nice zoom pictures on the insects! I've seen a similar spider here, but brown.

Holy CRAP - that spider is HUGE! When I lived in Vegas, we had a million black widows. They ate all the desert roaches that lived in the bushes the lined the neighborhoods. If you killed the spiders, you got roaches in your house...if you killed the roaches, you'd get the spiders in your house. We left them alone hoping not to disturb this balance.
